Ok, I am scared now! There are several families over in Ukraine right now who have had appointments with the SDA in the past week. One was told there are not any healthy girls under the age of 8. This will not work for us. We cannot interrupt our birth order. Another family was shown a dozen or so files, all of which were extremely sick. The child they did go to visit was a little boy who was born with spina bifida. They were told at the SDA that he had a spinal hernia that was repaired at birth. He had several other medical problems that were severe. Another couple was only shown sibling groups that were much older than they anticipated.
It is very disheartening that we are going over with such high hopes for our families and the child/ren we hope to adopt. Only for some families to come home childless.
Still my heart is calm, but my head is scared. Please send prayers and positive thoughts our way for a referral that will work for our family. I am not sure what we will do if we don't find our daughter.....

Michelle,
I am too very saddened about the recent referrals. No one seems to be getting what they requested. I know everything is in God's power and He has His own plans for us, but as humans it is often hard to understand why things happen... I continue to pray for us and all of other adoptive families traveling soon. There are some many children needing families...
Our friends had an end of Jan.appt. and had to request a second appt. They only waited a week for a second, was shown only one file. She was marked as speech delayed with crossed eyes, and almost 4. After meeting her they knew she was the one for them. The delaysa are not so severe and the eyes can be corrected. It is so hard to know the severity of the information written. Even though we requested a special needs child, even his file was a train wreck compared to the child we met! We will pray for wisdom for you!
Oh Michelle, I really hope that you travel and get to complete your beautiful family. You are in our thoughts.
Love,
Shana, Kevin, Mia, Haley, and Kyan
What happens to one family and the fate of another vary so easily in Ukraine adoptions. Do not focus on others, because it can really cause you to over worry about something you cannot control. On the same day, one family may get the perfect referral and another none at all. I have seen it happen over and over while in Ukraine. The children are there, but you need to be open to many conditions. For example, Right now many beautiful little girls with Cleft Lip and palate are being adopted and it is so easily correctable!
Michelle-
My thoughts are with you! Stay as postive as you can! When we were in Ukraine over a year ago - there were families that rejected LOTS of healthy referrals, due to mild correctable conditions. Read all you can about medical diagnoses, and know what your breaking point would be. Many of the diagnoses are incorrect. The SDA works in strange ways - don't try to think too much about it or try to understand it - because it will never make sense to us!
Don't worry - things will work out for you!

We understand how you are feeling right now because we traveled to Ukraine in November and after 12 days, we returned home without a child and are waiting for a second appointment. Just because many of us are not receiving "good" referrals, don't let our experiences ruin or even dampen your journey. God already has a child picked-out for your family and for all of ours, however we will be united in HIS time and not necessarily ours. I'm not going to tell you that waiting is easy because the truth is that it is very difficult, but God's timing is always perfect - no matter what, try not to forget that. When we traveled in November, there was a family from our same area in TN who accepted a referral for a 20 month old boy and he's doing great...once again, it's all about God's plan. Educate yourself on the possible medical conditions and find out in advance what type of corrective procedures your insurance will cover (i.e. hearing aids, cleft surgery, crossed-eye correction, etc.). Some families are painted a poor picture at the SDA appointment and some are not, but the important thing is that you follow your heart and don't be hesitant to visit a child that pulls at your heartstrings - you might be pleasantly surprised and find your child. Most of all, be open with your spouse and don't be afraid to share your anxieties with each other and most of all, with God. We will be in prayer for your family and especially for peace within your heart. We will continue to follow your journey.
Thank you everyone who has left a comment! It is very encouraging.
