Buc's Do It Again!!

First night of our district games and the Pirates killed the other team 7-1. This was supposed to be a really, really good team and our coach was a bit worried about how things would go. The boys played so good defensively. All of the boys had a chance to shine tonight, whether they were hitting triples or catching great.

We are playing a little differently than the boys are used to. We normally play 2 innings of the kids pitching followed by 4 innings of the coaches pitching to their own teams. In the district games, they use a pitching machine for all of the innings and get 5 balls pitched to them instead of their normal 6. First time up to bat, Luke was a little unsure of what to do and swung at the first 3 pitches and struck out. He is always good for a base hit so he was really mad at himself and actually teared up in the dugout. This is so unlike him and he rarely shows emotion in public. I explained to him that he didn't have to swing at every pitch and cleared up his confusion. Still it was hard for him to hit the ball. He likes a fast pitch and the ball is consistent but slower.

I had told Drew that I hoped Luke would get some action and do well so he would feel better. Next inning Luke pulled off his Johnny Damon in left center and caught another fly ball. We were so excited and it gave him back his confidence.

All in all it was a great game and the boys are still riding cloud 9!
